For energy and overall well-being
Rhodiola rosea is an herb that grows in dry, cold areas in the mountains of Europe and Asia. It has these primary benefits:
- Helps your body cope with physical stresses.
- Promotes the efficiency of your cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
- Helps support healthy oral mucosa tissue during certain stressful situations.
- Antioxidants in it provide free radical scavenging ability.
- Boosts mental clarity and well-being.
- Fights fatigue and elevates your energy level.
- Enhances overall well-being.
Rhodiola is an unusual herb with some truly amazing properties. It can take a week or more of supplementation before its effects become evident, but when they do they can be dramatic. It has been a dietary staple among many Eastern European and Scandinavian populations for centuries, and the Russians provide it to all their cosmonauts and Olympic athletes. When I sent a bottle of Vitacost Rhodiola Rosea to one of my brothers who’s a medical doctor (a rather stressed individual with a typically brutal doctor’s schedule), he called me up afterward to exclaim “I don’t need coffee to wake me up anymore”!
Nonetheless, Rhodiola isn’t for everyone. My brother eventually quit taking it when he had problems going to sleep, it gave him that much energy. I stopped taking it myself after a long while using it, not because of any sleep issues but I began to feel like it was giving me so much energy almost in an amphetamine kind of way that I felt I was overstressing myself physically and I wasn’t enjoying the unusually high energy mental state it provided me any longer. I have thought about resuming supplementation with Rhodiola perhaps at a reduced dose, but since I have recently begun taking Niagen which also provides a high energy level (without the almost-amphetamine-like effects of Rhodiola), my gut feeling is that it would probably not be a good idea to take both. So my recommendation to you is, if you feel like you could benefit from a higher energy level, try the Rhodiola for a couple months at least to see if you like it. Consider it a personal experiment. Start with the full dose of two capsules daily and drop back to one if it’s a bit too much for you. I do not recommend that you take it in conjunction with Niagen, although I can’t put my finger on exactly why, it’s just a gut feeling. Perhaps that’s because my general philosophy is to treat my body somewhat gently and respectfully without overloading it with too much of anything, if that makes sense to you.
